Ayurvedic Spring Cleanse at Flying Yoga: April 16 & 23 1-4 pm
Spring is a time of fresh growth and rebirth. The science of Ayurveda teaches that it is helpful to eliminate the heavy residue left over from the winter months to make space for this new growth in our lives. By incorporating a lighter but satisfying diet with more physical activity in the spring, we clear the channels of the body so that the circulation of our blood, lymph and nerve impulses happen in a more efficient way. Cleansing during the spring helps to ignite the metabolic activity in the body and clear lethargy in the mind. It also helps to avoid sinus congestion and allergies, feelings of sluggishness, weight gain and digestive discomfort. In this gentle cleanse designed for those with an active life and work schedule, you will learn how to purify and rejuvenate your body and mind using whole foods, herbs and lifestyle routines. Each afternoon, there will be two hours of cleanse instruction and an hour of asana practice geared towards firing up your metabolism. Get ready to feel the lightness of spring!

Individualized Cleanse Consultations: March and April
When most people think of cleansing, they imagine themselves feeling nauseous, having headaches and feeling generally weak and debilitated. In an Ayurvedic cleanse, the idea is to provide the body with the essential nutrients it needs so that it feels safe to let go of toxins or excess bodily tissue. Most people who have participated in an Ayurvedic Cleanse with me in the past have reported that they don’t even feel like they are cleansing because they feel so good! Whether you are dealing with a chronic symptom, wanting to lose some weight, stressed out, need a digestive reboot, feeling lethargic, not sleeping well, wanting cold and flu relief or experiencing allergies, an individualized Ayurvedic Cleanse is a great way to kick off your path back to balance.
During March and April, I will be ready to offer cleanse consultations to people in person at my space in Oakland or over the phone. This type of cleanse will gently purify your body and mind while still providing you with enough energy for your life and daily schedule. Here is how the process works:
General Ayurvedic Cleanse ($100): Includes 1 hour meeting to introduce the cleanse, 15 minute phone check in during the cleanse and 30 minute meeting at the end of the cleanse. In our first hour long meeting, I will go over a general cleanse that is safe and helpful for anyone that includes a mono-diet, herbs to aid elimination and other lifestyle cleansing habits (self-oil massage, etc.) After the cleanse begins, you will have the opportunity to check in with me during the week through e-mail or a short telephone call. At the end of the cleanse, we will talk again to discuss how to re-orient yourself back into your life.
(This option can be helpful for those people who have never done an Ayurvedic Cleanse or who are new to Ayurveda. If you have a group of people who are interested in this option, I am willing to negotiate a group rate.)
Individualized Ayurvedic Cleanse (Intake: $95 + Cleanse: $100): Includes 1.5 hour initial meeting, 1 hour meeting to introduce the cleanse, 15 minute phone check in during the cleanse and 30 minute meeting at the end of the cleanse. Our first meeting will be a 1.5 hour intake where I get an understanding of your physical, physiological and mental characteristics. With this information, I can design a specific cleanse for your individual nature. In our second hour long meeting, I will go over your unique cleanse protocol that includes a mono-diet, herbs to aid elimination and other lifestyle cleansing habits (self-oil massage, individual asana recommendations, etc.) After the cleanse begins, you will have the opportunity to check in with me during the week through e-mail or a short telephone call. At the end of the cleanse, we will talk again to discuss how to re-orient yourself back into your life.
(This option can be helpful for those people who prefer a more personalized cleanse, those who have already participated in a general cleanse with me in the past and want to go a little deeper or those who have already had an intake with me.)
Optional Cooking Class for Cleanse ($50): In this cooking class you will learn how to prepare all of the recipes that are used during the cleanse. This is a great way to feel confortable preparing food for yourself during the cleanse and have a wonderful meal with me! If you have a group of people who are interested in this option, I am willing to negotiate a group rate.

Autumn Cleanse: Saturday, October 23, 2-4 pm
Ayurveda strives to align all our actions with the efficiency and elegancy of the rhythms of nature. As the seasons change, we must learn to alter our daily life, dietary choices and yoga practice to find balance in the midst of this change. The dry and cold weather that dominates the fall season signals mother nature to pull her energy inward. From an Ayurvedic perspective, this is the time when Vata Dosha is prevalent. Incorporating a Vata balancing regime is important for preventing disease and remaining centered throughout the winter. In this gentle Ayurvedic cleanse designed for those with an active life and work schedule, you will learn how to purify and rejuvenate your body and mind using whole foods, herbs and lifestyle routines.
Location: Yoga Mayu – 2051 Harrison Street in San Francisco
Date and Time: Saturday, October 23 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm
Cost: $100 – Plus two 15 minute phone consultations and cleanse kit that includes massage oil, medicated ghee and other herbs.

March 31: Fuel for Life with Up2Yoga
I am delighted to invite you to my FREE Up2yoga call-in workshop on “Fuel for Life: Ayurveda to Optimize Digestion”, on Wednesday, March 31, 6:00 pm PST/9:00 pm EST.
Ayurveda is a system of holistic health that was developed to keep the container of the body healthy while undertaking the physical and mental practices of Yoga. According to Ayurvedic Medicine, improper digestion is the root of all disease. The food that we take into our bodies is transformed by a balanced digestive fire into healthy tissue. By creating a balanced fire, we operate at optimum health and eliminate disease before it can manifest outside of the digestive system. In this workshop, we will discuss Ayurvedic techniques to help you effectively assimilate nutrients and eliminate waste. Hungry Yet?

Optimize Your Digestive Fire
According to Ayurvedic Medicine, improper digestion is the root of all disease and there is nothing more sacred than the act of eating. The food that we take into our bodies is transformed by a healthy digestive fire into healthy tissue. The name of this digestive fire in Sanskrit is “Agni”. By creating a balanced “Agni”, we create an optimum environment for healing to occur in the body and eliminate all disease before it has a chance to manifest outside of the digestive system.
In this lecture, we will explore the digestive system from an Ayurvedic perspective. After a short introduction to the energetic principles of Ayurvedic Medicine, I will discuss the principles of healthy eating, supportive lifestyle practices, yogic techniques and herbal recommendations to help you create a balanced Agni in your everyday life. These guidelines will help you to create a flame in your belly that will increase your ability assimilate the nutrients from the food you ingest. Hungry Yet?

Ayurvedic Medicine: The Science and Art of Life

Shirodhara treatment
Ayurveda is the oldest form of medicine and it is a sister science to Yoga. Using the wisdom of Ayurveda, we place the body in an optimum state by utilizing right diet, lifestyle, exercise, herbs, aromatherapy, oil massage and other therapies. When the body is in this optimum state, healing of the dis-ease in the body, mind and spirit takes place both elegantly and efficiently, just as nature intended.
Andrew is a certified Ayurvedic Health Practitioner through the California College of Ayurveda. He also teaches yoga and has had extensive training in the Anusara tradition and is currently pursuing Para Yoga Level 1 teacher status with Yogarupa Rod Stryker. His intention is to create a bridge between the two sister sciences of Ayurveda and Yoga so that people can empower themselves to thrive and not simply survive.

Restorative Ayurveda for Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal Fatigue
The Adrenal Glands are the body’s natural defense against the daily stress of life. However, if we continue to push our bodies into greater levels of stress without altering our lifestyle to calm our nervous system, the Adrenal Glands can become fatigued and start to function improperly. Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue include: exhaustion, pain above the kidneys, overwhelm, inflammation, and even decreased libido (especially true for women).
In this workshop, Andrew Thomas will discuss the Ayurvedic perspective of Adrenal Fatigue and how to rebuild the Adrenal Glands by triggering the calming effects of our parasympathetic nervous system using Ayurvedic wisdom. He will offer lifestyle, diet and herbal suggestions to help keep your Adrenal Glands relaxed and operating at their optimum state.
Come prepared to mingle with yoga and ayurveda enthusiasts in a beautiful, peaceful home on the Fremont hills. You will be served chai and warm ayurvedic snacks appropriate for the fall weather.
